Connect your Instagram account to Facebook
First thing’s first: let’s walk through how to connect your Instagram and Facebook accounts. You’ll need to do this because Instagram ads are managed through the Facebook ad platform (no surprise since Facebook owns Instagram).
There are two ways to do this, and we’ll show you both.
If you have a Business Manager account, follow these steps to get Instagram setup on your account:
First, login to your Business Manager account and hover over the Business Settings tab. Select Instagram Accounts.
Next, click Claim New Instagram Account and enter your username and password for Instagram.
Finally, select the ad account you want to link to your Instagram account. That’s it — you’re done!
If you don’t have a Business Manager account, you’ll follow a slightly different set of steps.
First, go to the Facebook page that corresponds to the Instagram account you want to add and select Settings in the top right corner.
Next, select Instagram Ads from the Settings sidebar. You’ll then be prompted to add an Instagram account to the page.
Enter your username and password for the Instagram account when prompted, and you’re good to go.
Running Instagram ads without an Instagram account
If you don’t have an Instagram account, you are still able to run Instagram ads without connecting an account by just selecting Instagram as your placement option (we’ll cover this in the next section).
However, we do not recommend running Instagram ads without an Instagram account. When you run Instagram ads, you’re likely to pick up some followers on Instagram just because your post is going to be in peoples’ feed. If you run Instagram ads without an Instagram account, you’ll be leaving these followers on the table. It doesn’t make sense to not use an account when creating one takes less than a minute.
